I will explore the historical relationship between mathematics and the (study of) natural language, highlighting the impact of formal languages in linguistics. Besides, I will discuss the suitability and convinience of the application of some bio-inspired models of computation to the study of natural language, and the new perspectives they open for artificial intelligence.
